Yes, he had abominable actions in the beginning, but after the FL left him, he spent the rest of his days trying to atone for his mistakes and make amends with the FL. After finding out about the twins, he could’ve taken two seconds to file for custody for the kids, but he didn’t. Even when he saved the children, he didn’t reveal that he was their “Dad,” and I would like to believe that was out of respect for the FL.
Even if he did pass away, I wish they handled the situation better… perhaps have multiple scenes where ML’s soul and FL speak, how he properly apologizes and how FL properly accepts the apology (she spent the past year in trauma, so a few scenes wouldn’t been nice instead of just an “okay”), how the ML notices the love in the 2nd ML’s eyes, so he quietly tries to lead the FL towards him so she could be happy, how ML watches over his children with happiness as they visit his grave and find out the truth…
Even though the 2nd ML was everything the FL needed, I did not like how their relationship began immediately after her psychotherapy sessions ended. It almost makes me wonder why the FL did not get together with the 2nd ML before the ML’s death. The 2nd ML was always supportive, and I think I would’ve liked it more if the FL and the 2nd ML lead were together while FL and ML worked out a co-parenting situation once she trusted the ML enough.
Not to mention the kids… I know the FL hid the ML’s existence to her kids for a long time, but at this point they deserve to know that the man that saved them was their father. Yes, the origin of their birth was certainly not the happiest moments for the FL, but the fact that they are alive and healthy today is in part due to the ML’s sacrifice. For that alone, they should understand their father is not truly the monster he was made out to be…
Idk… I wonder if the artist just needed a way to get FL and 2nd ML together without serious backlash… killing the ML certainly does it, but I would much rather see an ending where the ML finds his own happiness (in his children or by finding another woman) and the FL gets together with the 2nd ML while the FL and ML co-parent. It would’ve been a revolutionary manga had that happened…

OK, so yes he was a jerk back then and did something cruel to her, but he saved his kids in the end. He has already atoned for his sins yet he has to die without the kids knowing who their real father was.
If he was alive, he can co-parent at most and bless the MC and the glasses guy being together. I know there’s no excuse for his behavior however he already suffered more than a normal person can have: dead parents, crazy grandpa, people thinking he’s incapable, a crazy ex gf who wants to ruin him, and not being with the girl he loves. He FINALLY made up for his mistakes and died to protect FL and their daughter. Yet life decided to give him the punishment a lot of us thought he deserved before the time skip. Still, at least FL can FINALLY move on. That’s all that matters as the kids like the other guy. ML, you’ll barely be missed.
Finally the 2nd ML end up with FL who are DESERVED to be with. It’s not all the time always the JERK, ARROGANT, DOOMINEERING & DOUCHBAG ML always get their want. 😏
